The Newfoundland Distillery Co.
Transforming an old fisherman’s supplies shop into the first local distillery on the island of Newfoundland gave me insight into the reuse of buildings and how their old functions and heritage can resonate in the new. Much of the design work itself took precedence from my cultural heritage of Newfoundland and is evident through the interiors, which have a lingering sense of local life and culture. The bar takes inspiration from the old woven branch fences the fishermen used to build, but represents the tradition in a simple and modern-day way. The newly completed interiors offer a cozy and welcoming atmosphere where people can sit and chat for hours as this quality is a corner stone of Newfoundland's homes and people.
